Stranded with the Rancher was a fun and immersive story to read. It’s already on my list of books to read when it’s cold outside or when I want a story set in a lovely blizzard!
The cast of characters was so much fun. I laughed out loud more than I can remember in one book in a very long time. I liked how Elsie always came out wearing screen printed sweatshirts with crazy sayings on them. While I can’t pick a favorite sweatshirt, I’d sure like to go shopping at her favorite apparel shop! 😉
I also enjoyed reading about the relationship between Elsie Gallagher and her grown kids. For me, it was totally relatable. It was refreshing to read about two godly men who shared such a close yet healthy relationship with their mom.
The setting of the book mainly revolved around the Gallagher ranch. It was an amazing oasis and a perfect real world place to get stranded in. It would have been great to be a next door neighbor – especially with all the cooking and baking going on!
I am quite sure that when the holiday baking starts this year and I start seeing snickerdoodles popping up everywhere, I’ll be reminded of the whole Gallagher family. And then there were the avocados – I’ve never thought of putting avocado slices in my tortilla soup! I’m thinking about trying it. 😉 Little inside-book humor.
Another thing I liked in the story was how Dan looked at his job as his ministry. He recognized that the passion he had for his work was placed in his heart by the Lord.
I also enjoyed the conversation about how Dan talks to God like He’s a family member, which He is, but as another character mentions, this isn’t something we see modeled much. Knowing God loves us unconditionally, like a good dad, is an awesome thought to mull over.
This is one of the first medical style books I’ve read. While it doesn’t go too deep into things, I think it would be a story someone with a background in the medical field would enjoy.
Stranded with the Rancher has a good re-readability factor and is worth the shelf space. It is perfect anytime you need a laugh or a pick-me-up romance on par with most family friendly Hallmark movies.

Book Character Notes:
Dr. Elizabeth “Beth” Rogers is a doctor who comes to town to visit her cousin and his family. While she has enjoyed the freedom that comes with being a locum doctor, a recent job opportunity in New York has her reaching for a more permanent position. She thinks once she has a more stable job she’ll finally have security and a place to belong. But after spending time stranded at the Gallagher ranch with caring new friends and helping tend to the local medical needs, will Beth see that the security she is searching for might not be in New York City after all?
Dr. Ben and Sara Rogers are the local docs in Paradise. Dr. Ben Rogers is super excited when his cousin, who is like a sister to him, comes to town. He has an opening at the local clinic he’d like to see Beth accept, but she is determined to head to New York to compete for a prestigious job position – come snow or blizzard! Is there anything he can do to change her mind?
Elsie Gallagher is the Gallagher boys’ mom and the awesome sweatshirt wearer in town. She has her own house on the Gallagher ranch and is still flying high from being successful at her last matchmaking attempt for her daughter. When a lovely and single stranded doc ends up being an unexpected house guest, Elsie quickly switches into matchmaking mode once again. But which of her sons should Beth end up with?
Daniel “Dan” Gallagher is Elsie’s younger son and the local pharmacist. After going through a bitter divorce, he and his daughter, Amy, came back to the town of Paradise. Still reeling from past hurts, he isn’t looking for a new relationship. So when his daughter instantly takes to the woman he brings home due to the weather, Dan isn’t sure it’s a good idea to let someone new get close to him or his daughter. Will he find that the doc is all city and no country? Or will he discover that she isn’t anything like the woman that left him and Amy behind?
Amy Gallagher is Dan’s daughter and Elsie’s granddaughter. She likes staying at the ranch. And when her dad brings in a new house guest, Amy is all excited. Beth likes to help out and teach her things, so does that mean she’ll stay?
Joe Gallagher is Elsie’s eldest son and the head rancher at the Gallagher ranch. He’s all cowboy and loves running the place. He especially likes taking good care of his cows. But things haven’t been going well for Joe after an equipment accident on the ranch caused him to lose one of his arms. When the opportunity to get fitted for a prosthetic arm arises, Joe decides to take the extended trip to Colorado, asking Dan to take over things for him. Being gone from the ranch for so long isn’t something Joe likes, especially since calving season has just begun – so Dan thinks it odd that when Joe returns home there are a few things different about him. Did anything else happen on that trip?
